What About When You Cannot Pray Now?

Engaging in prayer is considered one of the most powerful and meaningful practices for fostering a deep and meaningful relationship with God. However, there are moments in life where connecting through prayer may seem unattainable or difficult to achieve.

Often, my clients will say that the topic of prayer is well and good. They agree that conversation is wonderful to have with God…but what about the days when your heart is too full to pray? When life once knocked you down, and it feels like you will never rise again, what do you do on those days?

I tell them that in those moments, it can be helpful to remember Romans 8:26, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Your prayer life has a major impact on your faith life.

The Holy Spirit, residing within you as a beloved child of God, intercedes on your behalf. In moments when you find it hard to express yourself, when the depth of pain is overwhelming, and the waves of anguish seem to constantly batter your heart, find solace in knowing that the Holy Spirit is fervently and continually praying for you.

At this very moment, the Holy Spirit is in communion with the Father, sharing your deepest longings and sharpest hurts. He pleads for exactly what you need, even when you are silent. His intercession is continuous and a constant support in your faith journey.

At times, situations may hinder our ability to engage in prayer. Additionally, there are moments when we may struggle to articulate our thoughts and find the right words to communicate with a higher power. Some women find comfort in calling out God's name in these moments. Like a child crying for her Father, they repeat His name repeatedly. You can use a comforting term of endearment such as "Daddy," "Abba," or "Papa."

Call out like all those on the side of the road who cried out the name of Jesus.

Scripture records that Jesus stopped every time the destitute and weak called out. He paused whatever He was doing to listen to people who needed Him the most. He was never too preoccupied to hear and heal, always ready to respond to your call.

Prayer is one of the best ways to communicate with God. It is a precious opportunity to express our thoughts and feelings openly to our loving Father in Heaven, deepening our connection and bond with Him. Prayer also helps us to find strength and hope when we feel like there is no hope. Our responsibility as Christian women is to actively pray and have faith in the power of prayer to alter our circumstances.
