As Christian women, we are called to live in the freedom that Christ has won for us. Yet, many of us find ourselves bound by invisible chains—chains of guilt, shame, worry, or the expectations of others. The good news is that we do not have to stay stuck. Jesus came to free us, and living in that freedom starts by renewing our minds with the truth.
John 8:32 (KJV) says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This powerful verse reminds us that the truth found in God’s Word is our key to breaking free from the lies that hold us captive.
True freedom comes from knowing who we are in Christ and what He has done for us. A Truth Mindset is rooted in understanding and living in the freedom that Jesus offers. When we renew our minds with God’s Word and embrace the identity He gives us, we can break free from the chains that hold us back.
Zig Ziglar once said, “Freedom is not the right to do as you please, but the liberty to do as you ought.” As Christian women, our freedom in Christ is not a license to live however we want but an opportunity to walk in righteousness, love, and purpose. It is the freedom to follow God’s plan for our lives without being hindered by fear, guilt, or shame.
The first step to freedom is identifying the chains holding you back. Ask yourself, what lies do I believe are keeping me from living fully in God’s truth? Once you identify these chains, you can replace them with the truth of God’s Word and walk in the freedom He provides.
Here are practical steps to break free from the chains that may be limiting your life:
Identify the Lies Many of our chains are rooted in lies we have believed about ourselves, others, or God. These lies may include thoughts like “I’m not good enough,” “God doesn’t really love me,” or “I will never succeed.” To break free, we need to identify and replace these lies with the truth of God’s Word.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV) tells us: “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” We can break the chains of deception that hold us back by taking every thought captive and aligning it with God’s truth.
Release the Guilt and Shame Many women struggle with guilt or shame from their past. These emotions can become chains that prevent us from fully experiencing God’s grace and forgiveness. When we confess our sins to God, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Zig Ziglar once said, “When you are tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you.” However, there is a difference between healthy self-discipline and self-condemnation. As Christian women, we must learn to be tough on ourselves regarding spiritual growth but gentle when receiving God’s grace.
Let Go of People-Pleasing One of the biggest chains many women face is the desire to please others at the expense of their well-being. This need for approval can lead to burnout, stress, and an unhealthy dependence on others’ opinions. God calls us to please Him first and foremost, not to live for people's approval.
Galatians 1:10 (KJV) says: “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” When we seek God’s approval above all else, we experience the freedom that comes from living authentically and fully for Him.
Embrace Your Identity in Christ Understanding who we are in Christ is key to freedom. The enemy often makes us doubt our worth, purpose, or calling. But the truth is that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, chosen by God, and equipped for every good work (Ephesians 2:10). Embracing this identity helps us walk confidently in the freedom that Jesus provides.
Romans 8:1 (KJV) reminds us: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” As daughters of the King, we are free from condemnation and called to walk in the Spirit, not in fear.
According to research published in the American Psychological Association, individuals with a sense of freedom and autonomy experience lower levels of stress and higher levels of life satisfaction. When we embrace the freedom that comes from aligning our lives with God’s truth, we improve our spiritual well-being and experience mental and emotional benefits.
The journey to freedom is a daily process. It requires us to continually renew our minds with God’s truth and reject the lies that try to keep us bound. As Christian women, we are called to live in the freedom that Jesus provides, not as slaves to fear, guilt, or the approval of others.
Zig Ziglar said it well: “You are the only person on earth who can use your ability.” When we live in freedom, we can use our God-given abilities to glorify Him and fulfill our purpose on this earth.
