Cataract Awareness Month:

“The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.” — Proverbs 20:12 (KJV)

August is Cataract Awareness Month, a time to focus on the importance of protecting our vision and maintaining lifelong eye health. As Christian women caring for our families, communities, and ministries, it is easy to put our own health on the back burner. Yet our vision is a precious gift from God—one that allows us to read His Word, see His creation, and connect deeply with those around us.

🌸 What Are Cataracts?

Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s lens that leads to blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night, and increased sensitivity to light. They are common as we age, but awareness and prevention can significantly reduce their impact.

Key symptoms include:

  • Cloudy or blurry vision

  • Fading or yellowing of colors

  • Difficulty reading or driving at night

  • Frequent prescription changes in glasses

🕊️ Lie-Locked Living Around Health

Many Christian women live in Lie-Locked Living when it comes to their health:

  • “I am too busy caring for others to focus on myself.”

  • “This is just part of aging; there’s nothing I can do.”

  • “I will deal with it later when it gets worse.”

These lies leave us neglecting the temple God entrusted us to steward (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Truth Mindset™ reminds us that caring for our bodies—including our eyes—is an act of stewardship and obedience.

Truth: Your health matters to God.
Truth: Preventative care is wisdom, not vanity.
Truth: Stewarding your body equips you to serve well and see clearly the world He has given you.

✨ Practical Tips for Protecting Eye Health

Here’s how you can care for your eyes and lower your risk of cataracts:

1️⃣ Schedule Regular Eye Exams: Early detection is key—see an eye doctor annually, even if your vision seems fine.
2️⃣ Wear Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from UV damage with sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays.
3️⃣ Eat Nutrient-Rich Foods: Include foods high in antioxidants and vitamins C and E (like leafy greens, carrots, and citrus).
4️⃣ Avoid Smoking: Smoking accelerates cataract development.
5️⃣ Control Chronic Conditions: Managing diabetes and blood pressure helps protect long-term eye health.
6️⃣ Limit Screen Strain: Use proper lighting and take breaks when working on digital devices.

🌿 Faith and Vision Care

In the same way we seek spiritual clarity through God’s Word, we must also care for our physical vision. Our eyes not only serve us practically but also help us see God’s handiwork and stay present with our loved ones.

“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” — Psalm 119:18 (KJV)

🌸 Truth Declaration

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I will steward my health, including my vision, as a gift from God so I can serve Him with clarity and joy.”
