Set Goals From A Perspective Of The Thing You Crave

life coaching Sep 10, 2020

Women tread wearily towards the “right” goals. But what if you let your fixed ideas go and spend time delving into what you really crave from life?

To make an ultimate goal (your dream lifestyle), you must identify and choose your best “significant dream”.

Let’s check out the “What if…” game.

Suppose you have no limits to what you can:

  • Achieve
  • Attempt
  • Do
  • Spend

Imagine you are in perfect health.

Now imagine you are an ideal age.

What perfect age ARE you?

Put serious thought into this. At what age were you joyful? What age would you like to be perpetually? What age bracket would you like to do again with what you know now?

Most of us would like to be younger but perhaps retain the wisdom we have gained over a lifetime. But then again, some women instantly picture themselves at ten years of age, winning horse show classes on their dream pony and longing to stay in that moment.

Others want to retreat to the beautiful world of being a preschooler when everything is happy, safe, and simple. Some want to go back and live through the wild youth they never had because they got married very young and then started a family right away. Others missed out on having children and would love to be twenty-five and expecting a first child.

If you let your emotions answer, you may surprise yourself with the response after initially dreaming you have no limits and are in perfect health.

No one can go back in time and be six years old again. In reality, that would mean surrendering our life management to someone else and having very little control. But when you stay with that image of your perfect age and explore further, you can find what it is about that age that embodies perfect happiness.

For instance, one online entrepreneur revisited her pre-school days by changing her online art lessons to help people “reconnect to their inner child” by teaching them how to paint intuitively. It was a slight shift, but it gave her business meaning and joy once her mission transformed.

Another online entrepreneur would like to stay ten forever and ride ponies all day. She did so by outsourcing. And she spent most of her day in the barn with her horse.

Creating that time (and the leisure to enjoy it) became her primary goal: “Make $700,000 a year” was what she needed to achieve to enjoy that lifestyle. It was not the goal itself! And as soon as she understood that the lifestyle was her goal, she amplified her already-impressive efforts.

So take the time, right now, to do the following exercise:

My Dream Lifestyle
